Welcome to Syston & District Volunteer Centre

Syston and District Volunteer Centre, School Street, Syston,  was originally set up in 1977 with the declared aim of providing a range of services to meet the needs of the local community – especially the old, the infirm and the rurally isolated – to recruit and place volunteers, to provide appropriate support, to develop new ideas and opportunities for bringing the community together and to establish close links with other statutory and voluntary organisations who could assist in those tasks.

The centre provides a focal point for other organisations led by or using volunteers and promotes the benefits of volunteering and of the centre itself within the local community. The centre receives funding from various places.

It is now a full Charity managed by a volunteer Board of Trustees. The Board, which is elected annually by the membership, works within the terms of a formal Constitution approved by the membership in General Meeting.

The Constitution defines a Member as anyone who has served the centre as a Volunteer, or who has used or benefited from the services provided by the centre or who has made a financial contribution to the centre at any time in the period between Annual General Meetings of the centre.   If you qualify, you can attend and vote at all General Meetings of the Centre.

The Centre, which is currently staffed by three full-time employees, is open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Syston and District Volunteer Centre would like to announce that they have been awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service for 2019. We wish to thank all of our Trustees, Staff and especially our volunteers for all of their hard work and dedication that they have shown.
