Services

Social Car

One of the main services offered to residents in Syston and the surrounding town and village communities, helping the vulnerable in our community who need it most, is our “social car” service.  This offers personal, door-to-door transport for journeys to doctors, hospital appointments, shopping trips, visits to family, hairdressers etc., directly helping  those who would otherwise not be able to get out of their houses to meet appointments or to socialise.  Our band of volunteers who offer this service use their own cars in return for an agreed mileage rate.  The Centre charges the user the same mileage rate plus a small administration fee per journey, set by the Board of Trustees.  Users then receive an invoice at the end of each month.

Minibus trips and group transport

Using our small fleet of specially adapted minibuses, door-to-door, we transport groups to Day Centres, social outings, community lunches, shopping trips and other group activities organised by the Centre and other groups within the community.  In this way we help people to socialise and extend their active participation in community life.

Wheelchair and other mobility aids hire

We have a large stock of wheelchairs, bath boards, commodes, crutches and three wheel walker all available for hire from the Centre. Please give us a ring if require any of the above.

Handyman services

We can signpost you to a DBS checked handyman who can provide both handyman and garden services.

Monthly Community lunches

On the third Monday of each month we run a community lunch based at Beedles Lake Golf Club, East Goscote. The lunch is open to anybody, we can provide a limited amount of transport to and from your home but this is on a first come first served basis. The lunch consists of a two course meal with tea or coffee. The cost of the meal is £7.50 with an additional £5.00 if you require transport, if you would like to come along then please get in touch with the centre.

Support for local self-help groups

We actively support such local groups as Syston Games Club,Vista, Stroke Association, Young at Heart, Syston Carers etc

All of these services – especially the various transport services  are designed to enable people of all ages in the areas served to be as independent as possible and to continue to play a full and active part in the life of their communities.
